For enthusiasts, the Yamaha R15 V4 is pure magic with its thrilling blend of youthful exuberance and innovative cutting-edge technology. The R15 V4 is a fourth generation 155cc sport bike, launched in September 2021, that continues to rule the sub-200cc Indian supersport segment. The sleek lines and engineering prowess of the R1 Yamaha superbike certainly provide inspiration. The bike is a superb accessory to a sporty lifestyle, combined with its sharp ergonomics, enhanced features, and race-track calibrated capabilities.
Striking Design That Excites And Captivates
The face of the bike, sharp and aggressive, features a lineage from the R1 Yamaha superbike, helping it to stand out. The ‘predator’ look is achieved with the sharp fairing, twin LED DRLs and a biconvex LED headlamp. Furthermore, the bike sports a slung profile and low mounted stance along with bodywork that has large vents for excellent aerodynamics and aesthetics. The R15 V4 is available in Yamaha’s very own Racing Blue, Vivid Magenta Metallic, and 8 other extravagant colour choices.
Power-Packed Performance
The R15 V4’s engine is a 155cc liquid-cooled 4 valve SOHC engine with VVA. It boasts 18.4 bhp at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. It is a beast on the road. It is a class leader with a top speed of 131 km/h. The V4 engine is now monitored in real-time for compliant OBD-II emissions, and the 2023 updates now add the 155cc engine’s output features. The engine’s output features are the 18.4 bhp at 10k rpm and 14.2 Nm of torque at 7.5k rpm.
Advanced Technology For Riders
The R15 V4 also supports the use of Yamaha’s Y-Connect, allowing it to receive call alerts, SMS, and even give maintenance notifications, making the riding experience even more advanced and tech-filled. It also comes with a call-connected TFT screen with Y-Connect compatibility. Two riding modes also assist in personalising the experience of the R15 V4 to suit the city and even the racetrack. Other features to enhance the R15 V4’s track performance include a quick-shifter for seamless upshifts, and a traction control system.
Agile Control And Safety
The R15 V4 is engineered with a Deltabox frame which grants the bike precise sharp cornering and control. High-speed stability is provided by the 37mm upside-down front forks and the rear monoshock. With front and rear disc brakes measuring 282mm and 220mm respectively, combined with dual-channel ABS, the R15 V4 certainly provides confident stopping power. Having a ground clearance of 170mm and a seat height of 815mm makes the bike both sporty and accessible. While suited for highway riding, the aggressive posture may strain the back during long rides.
Comfort And Use
The R15 V4 is balanced, therefore performance and usability are both equally prioritised. While the narrow and tapered 11-litre fuel tank will be more comfortable for shorter riders, its mileage of 55.2 km/l in the city and 60.56 km/l on motorways supports long rides. Unfortunately, the pillion seat is cramped, which makes riding with a passenger uncomfortable.
Pricing And Variants
The R15 V4 is listed for a price of ₹1.84 lakh to ₹2.12 lakh (ex-showroom) and offers 6 variants from Metallic Red to the premium R15M which features a carbon fibre pattern. While the quick-shifter is standard on higher trims, it will be an accessory for the base models.
